It is normal for women to experience period stains during the time of the month. Having stain doesn’t mean that your period is different from others or you don’t have healthy hygiene. It could be because of your heavy flow or the level of your activities. Here's some tips on removing period stains on your reusable period pads.
How to avoid period stain
- Soak in cold water immediately - The important step to avoid period stain is to soak your reusable period pads immediately in cold water at least thirty minutes, after use. If this is not possible you can store them inside a wet bag until the time you are able to soak them in cold water.
- Rinse under running water - Rinse the reusable period pads under running water until the water runs clear.
Ways to remove period blood stains at home
- Add ¼ cup of water and 4 tablespoons of baking soda. Baking soda is a great stain remover and a widely known cleaning ingredient. It would have a paste-like consistency upon mixing. Apply the mixture to the stain and wait for about 30 minutes. Rinse using cold water.
- For fresher stains, use vinegar. Apply white vinegar to the part where the stain is and leave for 10 minutes, then blot with a damp cloth until the stain is clear. Rinse with cold water and wash them in the washing machine.
- Use lemon juice or hydrogen peroxide. Take note that these can affect the color of your reusable pads, especially the darker ones. Soak a sponge in lemon juice or hydrogen peroxide, and blot it at the blood stains. Rinse the pads under cold running water. Repeat until the stains are removed.
